Moors & Christians
The festival of Moors and Christians is a very old tradition that dates back to the 16th century. It commemorates the confrontation that took place between Moorish and Christian soldiers in the 13th century over the rule of Spain. The parades are very colourful with various groups of renactors portraying christan and moorish warriors. Whole families take part and travel around at weekends to various towns where they not only take part in various activities and battles but also party like only the Spanish know how!
Watch a short slideshow of the parade which took place in nearby El Verger in August 2009. The nearby Safari Park supplied the reptiles.
